Denver Workshop Summary

July 1- 2, 2002, Denver, Colorado

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region IV, in association with the Southern Waste Information Exchange, Inc. (SWIX) and with the cooperation and assistance of EPA Regional Offices and state solid and hazardous waste, waste reduction, P2, and recycling program offices, sponsored a day and one half workshop on the subject of Electronic Equipment Management and Compliance Assistance at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Denver on July 1,2, 2002.

The workshop’s purpose was to educate interested individuals, organizations, and businesses about issues, policies, laws, and current government and private sector activities related to this subject and help avoid potential violations associated with end-of-life electronic equipment. In addition, the workshop provided the opportunity for both public and private sector participants to network their knowledge and share information about how to encourage recycling of and manage used electronic equipment.

One hundred and six people participated in this workshop. Workshop participants included representatives from local, State and Federal governments, electronic equipment demanufacturers, scrap dealers/processors, non-profit organizations, electronic equipment manufacturers, trade associations, regional planning organizations, recycling coordinators, waste haulers, and universities.
